About the event
The Environmental Services (ES) industry comprises the Cleaning, Waste Management and Pest Management sub-sectors made up of more than 1,700 establishments and includes a mix of both international and local enterprises. A majority of the establishments in the ES Industry are small and medium-sized enterprises. The industry is seeing a higher demand for skilled workers, from general cleaners, to engineers and specialists in waste collection, recycling processes and waste treatment, as well as environmental health and safety professionals.
The industry is an essential industry and remained operational during the 2 month circuit breaker in Singapore. While positioned as an essential service sector, the ES industry have also experienced the need to innovate and upskill the workers in the industry with up-to-date skillsets and competencies. These skillset includes;
1) Need for mandatory evaluation of sanitation assessment and sanitation programme proposal by Environmental Control Coordinators (ECC)
2) Elevating cleaning standards to medical environmental cleaning benchmarks
3) Moving ES contracts from Headcount based to Outcome based contracting
4) Urgent demand for younger fresh hires to fill job roles for high risk disinfection operations
5) Building a Singaporean Core for ES services
